You need to contact the district court if you want to get divorced. When the district court has reached a decision on your divorce, it will inform the Swedish Tax Agency
You must apply to your local district court if you want to get divorced. You can submit either an individual or a joint application.
The district court might require you to attach a Divorce population registration certificate to your application.
When the district court has reached a decision on your divorce, and its decision has become final, the district court will inform the Swedish Tax Agency of it. You don’t need to contact the Swedish Tax Agency when you have been granted a divorce in Sweden
The Swedish Tax Agency will not normally be informed of your divorce automatically if it was granted in a country other than Sweden. You therefore need to inform the Swedish Tax Agency that you are divorced. You can do this by sending us a letter, or by visiting a Swedish state service centre in person.
You need to provide the following information:
If possible, please attach a copy of your divorce certificate to your letter. We will contact you if we need any additional information. When the Swedish Tax Agency has reached a decision, we will inform you of this.
If you choose to send a letter, please write to the Swedish Tax Agency at the following address:
Skatteverket
Folkbokföringen
205 30 Malmö
Our processing times vary depending on the population registration matter you need help with, and whether any further investigation or additional information is required. We process each case in order of receipt and do not give any cases priority over others.
If you have been granted a divorce in Sweden, it will take about 2 weeks for your case to be assigned to an administrator.
If you have been granted a divorce, or your partner has died, in a country other than Sweden, it will take about 14 weeks for your case to be assigned to an administrator.
