Here we have gathered information on birth certificates, marriage certificates, marriage licences, legalisation and apostille stamps.
If the foreign authority requires an explanation of the population registration certificate, you can refer them to the page “Information for foreign authorities” with the short address: www.skatteverket.se/certificate.
If the population registration certificate consists of several pages, the Tax Agency will only stamp and sign the last page. The stamp is in Swedish. We neither stamp nor sign population registration certificates that are sent to Swedish authorities.
You can order the following population registration certificates with a stamp and signature:
Sweden does not issue international birth certificates as other countries do. The document that corresponds to the birth certificate is the population registration certificate Extract of the population register – 120 with all relationships.
Sweden does not issue an international marriage certificate as proof that two people have married. The document that corresponds to the marriage certificate is the population registration certificate Extract of the population register – 120 with all relationships.
When the Tax Agency has stamped and signed your population registration certificate, some foreign authorities may require other stamps; apostille or legalisation. The Tax Agency does not issue an apostille or legalisation. If the population registration certificate requires an apostille stamp, you must contact a notary public.
You can find a notary public in your county on the County Administrative Boards' website under the tab “Människa och samhälle”.

Legalisations are issued by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. You can find information on legalisations on the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' website.

A foreign authority may require you to provide a marriage licence before getting married abroad. If you are a Swedish citizen and registered in Sweden, you can apply for such a document from the Tax Agency.
