Consent to the moving of a child
Children under the age of 18 must be registered in the population register under the same rules as those applicable to adults, i.e. with the address where they spend most nights.
You as legal guardian can consent to your child’s moving notification in the e-service Lämna samtycke (Consent). Consenting to the notification means signing the notification.
Use our e-service: Consent to the moving of a child
Here, you as legal guardian can consent to your child’s moving notification. You can also choose not to give consent.
Respond on time
Please respond as soon as possible whether you consent to the moving notification or not. You can respond within seven days from when the child’s moving notification was submitted.
Who may consent?
You may consent if you are a legal guardian and a moving notification was submitted on behalf of the child via the e-service Flyttanmälan (Moving notification).
Frequently asked questions
How do I provide my consent in response to a change of address notification submitted for my child?
If a change of address notification has been submitted through our “Report a change of address” (“Flyttanmälan”) e-service, you can provide your consent through our “Give consent” (“Lämna samtycke”) e-service. You need eID to use this e-service.
Please respond to the consent request as soon as possible. You can respond up to seven days after the change of address notification for the child has been submitted.
If you don’t respond using the e-service, the Swedish Tax Agency will send you a consent request by post. We will do this once a case administrator has started processing the matter.
What happens if I do not consent to a change of address notification for my child?
The Swedish Tax Agency will carry out an investigation to determine where the child should be registered. We will ask both of the child’s legal guardians about where the child lives and attends school or preschool, for example.
As the child’s legal guardians, you have the right to receive any relevant information before we reach a decision. We will then reach a decision about where the child should be registered based on this information.
Why is there no consent request for me to respond to?
If there is no consent request to respond to, this may be because:
- the child’s other legal guardian has submitted a change of address notification for the child by post
- the response deadline has passed
- you have already responded
- it can take a while for us to request consent once we have received a change of address notification for a child
What should I do if I want to provide my consent but the response deadline has passed?
You can respond by post, at a service centre or via our website, skatteverket.se.
If you submit your response by filling the contact form on our website, select the option “Yes” when asked: “Does your message concern an ongoing case or query with the Swedish Tax Agency?” Then state the child’s personal identity number.
Will I lose custody if I consent to a change of address notification submitted by the child’s other legal guardian?
No. You will only have consented to a change in the child’s population registration details.
