However, if you are moving in order to attend compulsory school or upper secondary school, you must be registered at your parents' address. The basic rule is that you must be registered where you live, i.e. where you sleep most nights.

If you are also still living in your former home, for example, once a week, this is called dual residence. Dual residence means you have more than one home and live in each of them at least one seventh of your time. It is the Swedish Tax Agency that determines which of these addresses you will be registered at in the population register.

If you are under the age of 18 and have to live away from your parents due to your studies, you must still be registered at your parents' address. This applies for as long as you are attending compulsory school, upper secondary school or an equivalent study programme that you commenced before you turned 18, but no later than the day you turn 21.
If you intend to study abroad for more than one year, you must report your move abroad to the Swedish Tax Agency.
