When you move, you must notify the Swedish Tax Agency of your change of address to ensure that you are listed correctly in the Swedish Population Register. Normally, your mail will then be sent to the correct address. Correct address details help us to ensure you are charged the right amount of tax, and help to establish your right to various subsidies and benefits. The Swedish Tax Agency will inform many of the relevant public authorities of your new address. Businesses can also access your new address details via the Swedish state personal address register (SPAR). If you would like your mail to be forwarded to your new address, you can request mail redirection from the Swedish change of address service, “Svensk Adressändring”.
Your registered address determines the municipality to which you pay tax. Correct address records also have an impact on social planning in a broader sense, in relation to housing developments, schools and care for the elderly.
Register a change of address for yourself and/or family members living at the same property.
It can take up to two weeks to register your change of address. Please do not submit another notification about the same matter. If you have a question about your notification, or if you would like to make any changes, please call our tax information service on 0771 567 567, or +46 8 564 851 60 from outside Sweden.
When the Swedish Tax Agency receives your notification, we will notify many public, municipal and regional authorities of your new address, including:
Major banks, insurance companies and businesses can also access your new address details via the Swedish state personal address register (SPAR).
However, you may need to notify membership organisations, publication subscription services and companies from which you wish to receive mail. You must notify private individuals of your new address yourself.

If someone else is going to take delivery of your mail for a longer period, you can register a special postal address via our e-service:
If you have your mail redirected, all post addressed to your previous address will be forwarded to your new address. However, mail redirection will not change your listed address in the Swedish Population Register. You can request mail redirection from the Swedish change of address service (“Svensk Adressändring”) for a fee. Your mail will be forwarded for a specified period, usually one year.
To help ensure that your mail gets to you, you should have your name on your front door and on your mailbox – even if you are a lodger or subletting a property.
You should not write “care of” (c/o) when you notify us of a change of address since we do not list c/o addresses in the Swedish Population Register.
You can register a c/o (“care of”) special postal address if you want someone else to receive your mail.
You should return all mail to the party that sent it by writing “Åter avsändaren: bor inte på denna address” (“Return to sender: not known at this address”) on the envelope, and then posting it. The sender will then know that the person in question does not live at your address.
If you know this person, it is a good idea to ask them to notify us of their change of address.
The Swedish Tax Agency will assess whether any Population Register data needs to be changed. Please help us by providing the postal address (your address) and as many of the following details as possible about the person in question:
You don’t have to provide the Swedish Tax Agency with your name or contact details if you don't want to, but it would help us since we may have follow-up questions.
The easiest way to provide us with information is by filling in the contact form on our website.
