When you move, you must report your change of address to the Swedish Tax Agency so that your address is correct in the population register. Reporting your change of address is free of charge and can be done quickly and easily using the Tax Agency's e-service.
Log in to the e-service using Mobile Bank-id or another form of electronic identification.
Report your change of address in advance or no later than one week after you have moved. Your new address will then apply from the day you move in. If you report your change of address more than one week after you have moved, your new address will apply from the day the report was received by the Swedish Tax Agency.
If you report a move to an address at which someone else is registered as living, the Swedish Tax Agency may send a follow-up letter to the person living there. If so, we will send our letter on the date you have specified as your moving-in date. In the letter, we notify the person concerned that you have reported a move to their address, and ask them to confirm whether or not you live there. We will normally register you at the address in question from the moving-in date you have specified, provided that:
If your change of address notification contains incorrect information, or the person we have written to informs us that you do not live at the address in question, we may contact you for more information.
If you live in an apartment, your listing in the Swedish Population Register must include your apartment number. Your apartment number is part of your address. It consists of four digits that indicate which floor your apartment is on, and where on that floor it is located. You will find your apartment number in the entrance to your apartment building, on your front door, on your mailbox, or in your purchase agreement or rental contract.
If you do not know your apartment number, please contact the owner of the property or your tenant-owner association. You must specify the apartment number listed in the national Apartment Register. Please note that property owners and tenant-owner associations sometimes have their own numbering systems for their apartment lists.
Reporting a change of address is not the same as having your mail forwarded.
Prevent unauthorised persons from changing your address.
You must be registered in the place you are studying.
If you have a secure digital mailbox for mail from government agencies, you will receive a message as soon as your address in the population register is changed. This service is free of charge and is a quick and secure way to keep an eye on your address.
In the digital mailbox, you choose whether you want to receive a text message or an email when you have official mail from the Swedish Tax Agency or other authorities.
